Resume Advice
Some of these may seem obvious, but they still happen ALL the time!!
- Don't put your name or contact information into a header or footer. A lot of recruiter and company databases cannot read them
- Don't forget your phone number!
- State month and years with employment dates
- Give a 1 line description of the company and what type of business it conducts
- List responsibilities with an achievement for each one. With each achievement - why is it an achievement? Compared to what?
- Back up your achievements with tangible figures when possible
- For roles that you had over 10 years ago just list the name of the company and job title, a full description is not required
- Include industry or academic qualifications
- References should be on a separate sheet ready to go - they should only be your previous direct managers
- Maximum length of resume should be 3 pages for junior management and 5 pages for senior management
- Always ask someone to proof your resume before sending it out. You'll have spent so long looking at it you won't notice all the typos!
